DRAPE at NGV

A little inspiration from a collection of works at the National Gallery of Victoria, titled Drape: Classical Mode to Contemporary Dress.

A little history that was displayed on the walls; “After animal skins, draped woven cloth was the first means of clothing, and in Ancient Greece, was worn in countless configurations to indicate class, gender and social positioning. Over time, the wearing of loose cloth has become associated with elegance, timelessness, comfort, wealth, prestige, divinity and barbarism.”

The Girl With A Feather and I went out for some crepes and collapsed in the garden at the gallery for some much needed resting of our feet before making it to see the collection that included, Comme des Garcon, Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana and show pieces from Kylie Minogue!

Let's just say, i'm still obsessed with drapes. I made this skirt today with one cowl drape on the side and pockets. I wish I had pockets on everything, they're so handy. I'm also wearing my market find; a gorgeous blue necklace.

calling on lady luck

I did a design exercise today at RMIT that went on for two hours. I thought it was way too long to design three outfits, but boy was i wrong. In the last half hour I quickly coloured in my final looks, labeled them and wrote my rationale. The photos they gave me for inspiration was quite fitting really because most things that I design revolve around them anyway. The first was a lace bra, the second were neon lights and the last one was a flower. I called my looks, 'Une Fille Comme Moi' and used the inspiration to design a work to drinks outfit, evening dress and a weekend look. Fingers crossed that I get noticed out of the 600 odd people that are taking the design exercise.

RIP DAUL KIM

I've only just felt like yesterday that I saw the first photo of Daul Kim, and really, it wasn't all too long ago. I hope she is in a better place and we all know she will be greatly missed.
